CivicStack empowers grassroots CSOs across East Africa with lightweight, modular software for M&E, humanitarian programming, donor engagement, and operational management—built with contextual intelligence and local needs at the core.
About this project
CivicStack is a modular suite of open-source and AI-native digital tools developed by Labs for Development to empower civil society organizations (CSOs) in East Africa—especially in fragile, resource-limited, or conflict-affected settings.
Our mission is to provide affordable, locally grounded digital infrastructure for civic actors—so they can manage grants, monitor impact, collaborate with donors, and use data for real-time decisions.
What we've built so far:
- Sudan Humanitarian Programming Chat: Context-specific AI agent trained on humanitarian and development data (e.g., ReliefWeb, CSO reports).
- MEA (Monitoring & Evaluation Assistant): Field support for qualitative and quantitative data collection, powered by AI and connected to familiar tools like ODK and KoboCollect.
- ImpactTrack: Lightweight CRM and M&E platform that enables CSOs and funders to collaborate, analyze, and visualize progress using natural language and structured data.
What’s next:
- AI-enhanced grant/proposal builder
- Procurement and HR management tools
- Localizable dashboards for storytelling and impact evidence
- Community governance and custom data training for organizations
Why it matters:
Many CSOs in the region face systemic digital exclusion. CivicStack bridges this gap with software that’s open, smart, and usable—without requiring technical teams or large budgets.
